Of Mom, For Mom, With Mom - Los Angeles Transformational Beauty Photographer

At the beginning of this year, I pledged to make more effort to photograph “mature” women. In the last two months that I’ve been MIA here, I received bad news about two of them.

One was an artist that I only recently started following. It took a mere few weeks for her to go from the sudden diagnosis to meeting her eternity. The other one is currently fighting her battle that was started recently. Only two months ago, I thought she has good genes as her mom made more than 100 rounds in this world.

I know we all are going to meet our final destination one day. But whether beknownst to us or not, a generation is quietly leaving us. When that day comes, would you be happy with the memories that you’ve preserved about them?

Mother’s Day is coming up. While I’m sure moms will not stop being moms (or stop doing what moms do) the other 364 days of the year, it serves as a reminder to ask ourselves this question:

When was the last time that you had a photograph professionally done of your mom, for your mom and/or with your mom?

I hope the answer is satisfactory to you. As I always say, “life won’t wait”. It’s especially true for a certain generation. When they are gone, a generation of stories are gone.

I’d love for a chance to hear their stories and present them in fine art work that will be treasured for generations to come. Please fill out the simple form below to start the conversation:

This Valentine's Day, I Wish You Compatible Weirdness - Los Angeles Travel Photographer

I thought it was funny that my eyes gravitate towards interesting (ahem, weird) couples in the animal kingdom.

But then, it seems the feeling is mutual. These two king penguins came to check out me and my Assistante. It must be proof that our funky spirit somehow vibrates on the same frequency that they do.

Dr. Seuss says ”We're all a little weird, and life's a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

I’m glad that we got the seal of approval from the unbiased judges that we stayed on our paths of being weird after years of marriage.

This Valentine’s Day, I hope you are celebrating your authentic weirdness with your compatible other.

Unless you prefer the picture depicted by Ray Barone (as in Everybody Loves Raymond):

“You wake up, she's there. You come back from work, she's there. You fall asleep, she's there. You eat dinner, she's there. You know? I mean, I know that sounds like a bad thing, but it's not."

The choice is yours. Cheers!

Happy Father's Day - Los Angeles Travel Photographer

If you ask 100 people how a Rakan (Note 1) should look like, you get as many different answers. That’s what gave rise to 1,200 of Rakan statues that Otagi Nenbutsu-ji, the temple at the outskirt of Kyoto, Japan is well-known for.

In the 1980s, under the guidance of chief of temple Kocho Nishimura (Note 2), 1,200 everyday people, who made a pilgrimage to the temple, learned carving to bring out the unique and personal figures that were hiding in the stone, each Rakan statue possessing a particular personality with a distinctly pre-enlightened identity.

While walking around studying the characters covered in moss, I discovered a face completely cover with hands. Yeah, love can make you blind, I guess.

As many faces/personalities in the world, I suspect there are varying shapes and forms of fatherhood. Since I’m only one daughter to one man, I’d leave the scientific study to the ones with access to vast amount of data.

What I wanted to say is, enjoy the Father’s Day, knowing that you’ve loved, guided and disciplined to the best of your ability.

Note 1 Rakan are followers (disciples) of Buddha.
Note 2 Nishimura was a Buddhist statue sculptor and restorer that later becaume a Buddhist monk. He was the chief of the temple at the time of the rakan creations.
